Honest Ed’s Sign Painters: A Tradition of Craftmanship
An interview with the talented sign-makers at Toronto’s famous discount store, Honest Ed’s. Video produced by the Koffler Centre of the Arts, in association with the exhibition “Historic Summer Special”, June 21 to November 11, 2012, highlighting unique historic signs and records from the amazing archive of the store, celebrating its long tradition of craftsmanship. Exhibition curated by Valentine Moreno.
Popeye’s city boys visited one of our weekend intro to brush lettering classes, and here reprinted a lot of illustrations Caitlyn drew for our accompanying guidebook.
With a few shots from around the shop, and a page from our brush lettering guidebook (illustrating our top secret proprietary stroke numbers and directions, oh no!), Popeye answers the age-old question, “What is sign painting?” At least, I presume they do. I’ll have to get Candice, or someone, to translate this for me.
